Take attendance at the door

Attendance should cost you nothing on a night when you have no attention to spare. Here's the whole system.

Open the door

From your event, open Check-in. That page is the kiosk: a roster where whoever's working the door taps each student as they come in.

Put it on a tablet in the foyer. Add ?kiosk=1 to the address and the page locks into kiosk mode, so a wandering seventh grader can't tap their way out of it into the rest of your account.

The person working the door doesn't need an account. A volunteer holding their Brief link can run check-in too, which means the door belongs to whoever is actually standing at it.

Let students check themselves in

Students can also do it with their own phones, in two halves:

1. The reminder text before the night includes a personal link. Tapping it once teaches that phone who they are.
2. At the door, they point their camera at the QR code on the kiosk. Done. Checked in.

A parent's phone with three kids on it gets asked which ones are here, instead of guessing. And if a phone doesn't cooperate, the fallback is the kiosk roster and a human tap. Nobody stands outside because of a battery.

The part you stop doing

Checking a student in also records their small-group attendance. If Bobby checks in on Wednesday and Bobby is in the 6th-grade boys group, his group record fills in by itself.

That's the whole reason this exists. No printed roster, no re-typing attendance into a second system on Thursday morning. One tap at the door writes it everywhere it needs to go.

What you see after

Attendance lives on each student's profile, alongside their group. When someone quietly misses a few weeks, the record is sitting there instead of in a spreadsheet you'd have to remember to check.
